Show off your skating skills in one of the ice rinks in the heart of the city. Or pack a thermos and go cross country skating on natural ice together with a guide. Here are a few options!
The waterways of Stockholm don’t freeze over very often. But when they do, skating on natural ice is an exhilarating experience—and something that Stockholmers wouldn’t miss for the world. But there are also a number of ice rinks in the heart of the city.
Long-distance skating on natural ice requires a certain amount of knowledge and safety equipment. An alternative is the ice rink in Kungsträdgården in the city center, or one of Stockholm’s many exercise trails. Vasaparken has a large mechanically-frozen ice rink, and there are ice-skating rinks at Zinkensdamm, Östermalm och Eriksdal sports stadiums.
If you want to try skating on a frozen lake, Trekanten by Liljeholmen station or Norrviken in Sollentuna have ploughed skating tracks. For a safe and memorable experience, however, tourists should join a guided group. Contact the Stockholm Tourist Centre for more information about guided tours. The contact details are listed further down the page.
