Local boat transport

Travelling by local ferries is a fantastic way to experience a city built on islands. Ferries are used by both commuters and tourists wanting to take a better look around. There are ample ferry departures from Nybroviken and Slussen out to the leafy island of Djurgården. An SL Card includes ferries from Slussen and you can also buy single tickets on the quay.

Djurgården ferry

In StockholmWhite Djurgården ferries depart for Djurgården from Slussen; they are a classic feature of life in Stockholm and they carry city slickers and tourists to Skansen, Waldemarsudde or the Rosendal gardens. During the spring and summer they also ferry innumerable happy families and groups of friends to enjoy the Gröna Lund amusement park's many attractions. The ferries also make a stop at Skeppsholmen. SL Card holders (not prepaid cards) travel free on the Djurgården ferry.

Nybro ferry

In StockholmThe ferries that run between Nybroviken and Djurgården have carried Stockholmers and visitors from quay to city quay since the beginning of the 1890s. During the summer you can take these beautiful boats from Nybroviken till Vasamuseet, Gröna Lund, Skeppsholmen and the cruise line terminal at Stadsgårdskajen. You can buy single or return tickets valid for 24 hours.

M/S Emelie

In StockholmM/S Emelie takes you across the water to Djurgården and on to Hammarby Sjöstad, Stockholm's latest, most modern city district. Emelie – like her sister vessel M/S Lotten on the Södermalm to Hammarby Sjöstad run – was named after Per Anders Fogelström's working class heroine from his series of novels about Stockholm. M/S Emelie runs daily during the high season and at spring and autumn weekends; she is handicap friendly.
