Festival Summer
Publish date: 20 June 2024
Summer is the season for large music festivals. Here are some of the biggest this year!
Stockholm is bursting with music and festivals during the summer months. There is truly something for everyone: from throbbing electronic dance floors to delicious craft beer pub crawls. Stockholm Early Music Festival – the largest event in the Nordics for baroque, renaissance, and medieval music – opens up the festival season in June. Great music and good vibes are also guaranteed when the Rosendal Garden Party kicks off later in June. The Baltic Sea Festival closes the music festival season in August with classical music.
Besides music, Stockholm also has several arts and culture festivals. August kicks off with the annual Stockholm Pride. Two weeks later Stockholm Culture Festival will offer music, dance, workshops, and activities for the whole family.
The biggest recurring summer festivals in Stockholm
- Stockholm Early Music Festival (June) – Interestingly enough, the first summer festival also focuses on the earliest music by Baroque and Renaissance composers. The main venue is the German Church in Old Town.
- Department (June) – Music festival focused on techno, house, and other types of electronic dance music. In 2024 Department moved back to Fållan in Slakthusområdet.
- Rosendal Garden Party (June) – A tre-day festival held in the green Rosendal area on Djurgården. Each evening has a distinct theme with the performing acts being chosen to compliment each other.
- Street Food Festivalen (July) – Delicious food festival on Södermalm that moved to the Norra Hammarbyhamnen area in 2024. Sample street food from around the world, drink, and watch the Swedish finals in various gastronomic competitions.
- Stockholm Pride (July/August) – Northern Europe's largest Pride celebration. The main festival area – concerts, stage shows, workshops, and great food – is on Östermalms IP.
- The Stockholm Culture Festival (August) – A free all-ages festival in central Stockholm with concerts, theatre, craft workshops, and other events. The main stage is in Kungsträdgården Park.
- The Baltic Sea Festival (August/September) – The Baltic Sea Festival closes out the festival season, as well as opening Berwaldhallen's fall season. Musically, the festival highlights orchestral and classical music from the countries around the Baltic Sea.
