For a long period, Japanese restaurants in Stockholm were few and far between. But in the late-'80s to mid-'90s, as the interest in Japanese popular culture grew – video games, anime, manga, and film – so did the appetite for Japanese cooking.
Swedes quickly took a liking to sushi, ramen, gyoza, and other delicacies and the last 10-15 years have been even quite busy for lovers of Japanese flavors as more Stockholm chefs have looked to the East for culinary inspiration.

- Totemo Ramen – A small and unassuming little ramen joint in central Stockholm. Carefully selects sustainable ingredients and makes its own noodles. Open only during lunch hours.
- Nour – Nour received its first Michelin star in 2022 for its Japanese and Swedish cuisine blend. Restaurant manager Sayan Isaksson wants to create a homey feel, and the restaurant has been described as alternative fine dining.
- Sushi Sho – Sushi Sho in Vasastan serves its food okamase-style; one-bite-sized morsel at a time, with guests seated at a counter surrounding the kitchen. The restaurant received its first star in Guide Michelin in 2016.
- Misshumasshu – Lunch and dinner spot, run by celebrity chef-duo Adam and Albin. Its menu mixes typical Japanese dishes and fusion food with a Japanese twist.
- Tak – Great food with a great view. Tak is located smack-dab in the middle of town and serves its Japanese fusion menu against a vista of inner-city Stockholm from its penthouse location.
