The Stockholm Open was founded in 1969 on the initiative of former world player Sven Davidson. Since 2023, the tournament has been organized under the name BNP Paribas Nordic Open. For one week in October, 30,000 visitors come the Royal Tennis Hall, and the event can be held thanks to over 350 volunteers.

The tournament is the world's oldest indoor ATP event and the only one played in an indoor arena built for tennis. World stars such as Björn Borg, John McEnroe, Roger Federer, Boris Becker, Mats Wilander, and Stefan Edberg have all won the tournament.
