Il Giustino by Antonio Vivaldi at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre

The opera premiered at the Teatro Capranica in Rome in 1724 and this is the first time it will be performed in Sweden. The plot is based on the true story of a peasant boy who seeks happiness in the city and ends up as emperor. Now the story is set in the late 18th century and in a completely different environment. Power, loneliness, love, jealousy, and lust fit into the story together with the theatre's fantastic machinery and Vivaldi's wonderful music. Conductor and director: George Petrou.
