Say cheese! Want to catch Stockholm's unique beauty with your camera? Here are some great places to start.
In Stockholm, ready to take some photographs? Nice! Photographers looking for interesting spots, buildings, and areas to snap a picture are spoiled for riches. To get you started we've put together a list of some popular Instagram spots and added a couple of outliers.
Some are easily reached public places in central Stockholm, others are picturesque archipelago villages. Some give you an idea of Stockholm's cultural life and history, others offer splendid scenic views of the city's various neighborhoods. But once you've seen them - and what's more; photographed them - you'll never forget them.
- Scenic views: Fjällgatan and Monteliusvägen/Skinnarviksberget on Södermalm are probably Stockholm's most beloved (and photographed) viewpoints. Both offer a lovely view over urban Stockholm with a dash of green nature and blue water. Vanadislunden gives a bird's eye view over northern Stockholm, while the Skyview gondola on Avicii Arena does the same for Southern Stockholm. The rooftop bar Tak/Stockholm Under Stjärnorna is great if you want a view of central Stockholm.
- Culture and museums: Stockholm's museums mix architecture with fascinating exhibitions and are highly photogenic. Contemporary and modern art at Moderna, sculptures in scenic surroundings at Millesgården, and the atrium at The Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities to name a few. A lesser-known location off the beaten path is Kulturkvarter Snösätra in Southern Stockholm and its colorful graffiti murals.
- Architecture: The City Hall, Östermalm Market Hall, Prästgatan Street, The Woodland Cemetery, and Kulturhuset Stadsteatern are great spots to capture Stockholm's diverse architecture: from Medieval cobblestone streets to contemporary Brutalism. The circular Brunkeberg tunnel in central Stockholm is another uniquely photogenic location.
- The Stockholm Metro: The artfully decorated stations of Stockholm's metro system continue to be among the most photographed locations in town. T-Centralen, Kungsträdgården, Stadion, Thorlidsplan, and Rådhuset are some of the most popular. Almost every station has some kind of unique decoration or public artwork, though. - Nature and the Stockholm Archipelago: The Stockholm Archipelago might seem tricky since it covers a big area. Vaxholm and Sadhamn are good places to start if you're looking for picturesque towns and hamlets, and Landsort offers a scenic vista of the Baltic (but be advised, they require some getting to). The Royal National City Park, Järvafältet, and The Nacka Nature Reserve are perfect if you want to capture nature close to the city. Besides, Hellasgården's sauna is open all winter for those wanting to humble brag about a chilly winter swim.
