Parenting on equal terms

Sweden was the first country in the world to replace maternity leave with gender-neutral parental leave in 1974. Today, it offers one of the most generous systems globally, granting parents 480 days of leave per child. To encourage more fathers to take parental leave, Sweden has introduced ‘daddy months’—60 days reserved exclusively for fathers on a use-it-or-lose-it basis. As a result, fathers now take around 30% of the total parental leave.
